2016-07-04
On July 1, 2016, MaryKay Cosmetics Co., Ltd. donated 1.75 million yuan to the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation. The raised fund will go to SSCLF - MaryKay Thanksgiving Public Welfare Fund’s “Operation Smile” project to provide free reconstructive operations for 350 children with cleft lips in poverty-stricken areas in China.

Up to now, 32 cases of operations have been successfully conducted at the Changdu People's Hospital in Tibet Autonomous Region in South Western China. During the treatment, withstanding the different degrees of altitude sickness, all the medical professionals performed free operations for the Tibetan children with cleft lips not less than 12 hours per day.

Because of poor economic and medical conditions, many children with cleft lips in some remote areas can’t be treated in a timely manner. "Operation Smile" project, sponsored jointly by SSCLF and MaryKay Cosmetics Co., Ltd. is aimed to providing free reconstructive surgeries for children with cleft lips in impoverished areas. In addition to Tibet Autonomous Region, the project is to be carried out this year in Yunnan, Guizhou and Gansu provinces and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
