Hundreds of children with cleft lip and palate in poor areas regain a full smile after free repair surgery
As an important activity of SSCLF - MaryKay Thanksgiving Public Welfare Fund’s Hundred Percent Smile project in 2016, “Operation Smile” trip started from Zhengzhou city, Henan province in May and ended perfectly at Mengzi city in Honghe Hani-Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan province in December, 2016. MaryKay Thanksgiving Public Welfare Fund invited the domestic and foreign medical experts from the United States, Britain, Singapore and other places to provide free repair surgery for hundreds of children with cleft lip and palate in poor areas in many provinces and cities in China and then the children regained a full smile. At the same time, with the surgery operated throughout the country, MaryKay's local sales teams are also actively playing non - medical volunteers in the surgical process to assist the medical team to provide care and help for children and their families.
Data show that there is one harelipped baby every 700 children, in total more than 6 million children with cleft lip and palate in China. Many of these children often miss the best time to undergo a repair operation because of medical conditions or economic reasons. MaryKay Thanksgiving Public Welfare Fund’s Hundred Percent Smile project is created for this purpose. As of the end of 2016, the project has helped 471 girls with cleft lip and palate in Henan, Guizhou, Hebei, Sichuan, Guangxi, Tibet, Gansu, Xinjiang and Yunnan provinces in China to regain a full smile through the provision of free repair surgeries.
